Early Birthday Lunch
We had decided ages ago that the perfect place was Toms Kitchen, which is down shafto lane in the city. Every time we come here the service is great and the food is amazing.
Simone enjoy the Slow cooked pork belly, beer braised cabbage, cannellini beans and crackle crumb. It was sooooo delicious! Really nice winter food, very filling and so tasty.
I had the Orechiette, beef cheek ragout and parmesan. The name for this pasta comes from its shape which is the Italian word for "ear". The ragout was rich and very morish.

Pumpkin and pine nut Tagliatelle
It was Pumpkin and pine nut Tagliatelle - so here goes
whizz it in a food processor, then stir in cream..
Toast some pine nuts
Combine sauce and pasta
The yummy end result! The recipe says to whiz the sauce for 30 seconds, which I did. But then you add cream.. Which made it a little too soupy for my liking. If I make it again I wouldnt whiz it up some much and leave the pumpkin quite chunky. That said, the sauce had a lovely sweet edge and it was so creamy, I ate too much and ended up on a food coma.
RECIPIE..
PUMPKIN AND PINE NUT TAGLIATELLE
Preparation Time:: 25 minutes
Cooking Time:: 25 minutes
Serves:: 4
750g butternut pumpkin
30g butter
1 large onion
2 garlic cloves
375ml vegetable stock
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
250ml cream
500g fresh Taglitelle
80g pine nuts
Grated cheese to serve
1. Peel the pumpkin, discard the seeds and cut into small pieces. Melt the butter in a large saucepan. Add the onion and garlic and cook for 3 minutes, or until soft and golden. Stir in the stock and add the pumpkin. Bring to the boil, then reduce the heat slightly and cook until the pumpkin is tender. Reduce the heat to very low and season with the nutmeg and freshly ground black pepper. Stir in the cream until just warmed through - do not allow the mixture to boil. Transfer to a food processor and process for about 30 seconds, until the mixture forms a smooth sauce.
2. Meanwhile, cook the tagliatelle in a large saucepan of rapidly boiling water, once cooked, drain and return to the pan. Add the sauce to the pasta and heat gently. Add the pine nuts and toss well. Serve with grated cheese on top.
Hangover Cure @ Daily Planet Mt Lawley
The food wasn't as impressive as last time we went... But maybe that comes down to me being hungover and
Naz, as usual, was extremely cheery and charming. He is becoming our little breakfast mascot

Stephs Birthday
My chopsticks were razor sharp and I was raring to go ..! I had never tried Shashimi before and a chilly Saturday night on Beaufort Street seemed like the perfect time to do it!
I'm sorry there aren't more photos. The food was delicious and every dish was like a work of art. It was all so clean, gleaming and fresh.. So healthy! So impressive! I will be back

ANZAC Day breakfast at The Daily Planet, Mt Lawley
Then everything went NUTS!!
I had borrowed my sisters car to take to the house I was house sitting for the night.. (my car is now completely undrivable, but that's another blog post...) Went about my usual night routine and was in bed by about 10 pm.. (the house I was house sitting was about 40 minutes drive away from my sisters place)..
I awoke with a start at about 4:15am to THIRTEEN MISSED CALLS! My phone was on silent and I hadn't heard a thing. I called my sister straight away, her baby wasn't well and they had gotten a taxi (oh the guilt....) to emergency.. I zoomed straight in there on my borrowed wheels.
After what seemed a lifetime we were seen by the doctor in the emergency ward and Naz was given some medicine.. After that kicked in we all wearily walked out to the car and I dropped them at my sisters place in Mount Lawley so they could get some proper shut eye.
I went to get petrol and supplies for the sickies from the chemist and the supermarket. On my way back to the car I walked past Daily Planet, after such a long night the smell of good coffee enticed me in. Daily Planet is right next door to Planet Video and Planet Books and is filled to the brim with hipsters.
I was seated straight away, the staff didn't have a uniform and dressed however they liked. I usually find that a little unnerving as I'm never sure who to ask where my Eggs Benedict is.. But they pull it off well here and the staff are very atentative.
I ordered a double- shot latte as soon ask sat down. After such a long night I needed coffee. Plus "I'll have a double shot latte" is my new favorite thing to say... Makes me feel important.
I ordered the pikelets to eat. I forget the actual name on the menu and I didn't get a chance to take a picture of it.. But here it is..
Perfect fluffy pikelets with honey and powdered sugar and in that little glass is a berry compote. It was divine! And what a way to properly start the day..! The waitress informed me that there was "free wifi with no password" which is great and I don't understand why more cafes don't do this.
I devoured my delicious meal and went back to my duties looking after Simone and Naz.. An eventful Anzac day to say the least!

Lunch with Simone sans Baby Naz
We sat outside but moved undercover when it started to rain. Who else is loving the cooler weather in Perth? I'm looking forward to having an excuse to make soups and hot chocolates for the first time in ages! I don't feel like a 40° heat wave lends itself to making those kind hearty comforting things..
We told the waitress we would be sharing our burger, she thoughtfully bought us two plates and cut it in half
Extreme bacon close up
the cliche burger shot..
We also had a beer each. It was the perfect size for lunch, neither of us felt too full. Bring on the cooler months and all the have to offer.

Breakfast at Soho Bar & Kitchen, Fremantle.
Another Sunday morning, another delicious breakfast to be scouted out and eaten. My sister, Simone, her son Naz and I found ourselves in Fremantle on a very sticky and stifling morning. We sought out salvation at the Soho Bar & Kitchen as our favourite Maraschino Tea & Espresso Bar was suprisingly closed.
Naz provided us with endless entertainment and as he's so cute the wait staff were never too far away
My latte was very milky and luke warm.. I know lattes are meant to be quite milky but it was a little too much for me. Simone had an earl grey tea and said it was "really nice."
I ordered the Parmesan Toast with grilled mushrooms, spinach and bacon. The parmesan toast was very tasty and a nice change to normal toast. The spinach, I thought could have been a little wilted - it seemed like a handful was grabbed out of a bag of baby spinach and put it on the plate without a second thought.
Simone ordered the Full English Breakfast with an extra hash brown for Naz. According to Simone, it was very filling and tasty but she wouldn't have minded some butter for the toast..

Breakfast at John St Cafe in Cottesloe
I parked along Marine Parade and walked a short distance and turned down John Street. I had heard good and bad things about this charming little cafe and wanted to try it myself.
There were cyclists and hipster mums as far as the eye can see, which is the norm for little places like this. So after tripping over all the bikes and the prams I was offered a seat and at the same time a coffee.
That latte was the perfect thing for my thumping head. As you can see the tables are very vibrantly painted. My table had a green crab.
I ordered the breakfast bagel to eat. It sounded great and included almost all of my going-out-for-breakfast favorites.
My holy trinity of breakfast is eggs, bacon and avocado. As you can see there is no egg. There was a lot of water cres and heaps of cream cheese which gave it a strange tang I'm not used to. It was nice and filling and quite tasty apart from the cream cheese. Though I must admit I did spend an alarming portion of the day on the couch so the John St cafe unfortunitely didn't cure my self inflicted sickness hangover..
